Index

Index is the OG one and was built in 2022. The main concept was a mix of futuristic, space-themed, and terminal-style design. On the technical side, all the graphical stuff had to be made with only CSS and JS—no image files. It took some effort, but for something this personal, let idealism—always—dominate.

The Space Jam website, Star Wars, and Power Rangers in Space were the first things that came to mind.

The Space Jam website inspired the solar system I put in the header, as well as the concept of a site menu with icons. The big yellow “arkhlima” text style was inspired by the Star Wars logo. The “space” in Power Rangers in Space—I liked it and took inspo from it. And of course a starfield bg—one thing those three have in common.

I wrote a manifesto—the most serious shit on this site because it came from lots of reflection. I thought a visual statement could strengthen it. Something like a symbol or a seal… I don’t really remember my thought process on that, but it seems that I went with Al’s blood seal from FMA. That’s that.

  • A design reference sheet of the RX-78-2 Gundam head.
  • Shino Aburame wearing his signature visor and green jacket.
  • A close-up of the RoboCop reboot helmet with its red visor light.
  • A short clip from Ready Player One of a man in a VR visor that flashes orange kanji.

The next one was a bit complicated, but I remember wanting to put a figure that represented me—not entirely—more like 50:50. Showing my face was a BIG NO. Then I thought—let’s just draw it.

I liked RX-78-2 and thought it might be a good fit here. On top of that, my mind connected to another reference—the scene in Ready Player One where Daito transforms into the RX-78-2. It was rad scene and inspired me to make a human-to-Gundam transition too. Last but not least, I fused Shino Aburame’s visor plus RoboCop’s red visor for the human figure.

Holodeck

The inside of a holodeck with a yellow grid on the black walls and floor.

Holodeck is the name I took from Star Trek. It’s a room that simulate places and experiences—and make them feel real, which fits what I want this page to be. I put the things I make on the internet here. All is personal here—nothing work-related.

The EXILE CD single sleeve made of a grid of children’s portraits around a silhouetted tree.

Start from the header. I saw this Encarta somewhere, and it reminded me of using it when I was a kid. I liked the layout, so I used it as a reference for the Holodeck header. I added a few images that fit the Holodeck concept, but I wasn’t satisfied with the result. I tried changing and twisting the design a few times. Then I went with black and white plus a dither effect. The idea came from EXILE’s もっと強く single cover. I liked it, and then realized the cover matched the Encarta reference perfectly.

After that, I wanted to add some animation or interaction, since every header on this website must have one. The opening of Kamen Rider Faiz immediately came to mind. A scene with many moving grids somehow stayed in my head—so I had to try adapting it.
